Plan a trip as a story: days on a single thread, bookings attached to the moment they matter, maps that work offline.

## Challenge

A trip usually lives in several places at once: confirmation emails, screenshots of tickets, a notes app with addresses pasted in. None of them knows what happens at 07:40 on day six. And the map, the thing a traveller opens at a station, a gate or a street corner, often while roaming and low on battery, needs signal at exactly the moment there isn’t any.

## Solution

Every trip is one vertical timeline, a day at a time. The design board walks through a sample seven-day trip, from landing to the flight home, and tags each item on a day as a booking, a map or a note. Tickets and reservations snap to the hour they’re for, so the ferry sits at 07:40 on day six with its seat and reference beside it. Each day’s map downloads the night before. One type system runs through the thread, map and ticket screens: serif for places and moments, mono for times and codes.

## Technology

React Native, so a single codebase serves iPhone and Android and new features reach both phones together. Map tiles for each day are saved to the phone ahead of time, so a walking route opens with no signal at all. Bookings arrive when the traveller forwards the confirmation email, instead of retyping times and references by hand.

## What we’d measure

Travel Planner is a goodtogrid studio concept, not client work: there is no client, no launch and no result to report. It is an iOS and Android app for travellers who want a whole trip on one timeline, with bookings pinned to the hour and each day’s map saved for use offline. On a live product we would measure three things. First, how many trips are planned end to end in the app, because the premise is that one thread can replace a scatter of emails, screenshots and notes, and trips that drift back to those would say otherwise. Second, how often maps are opened without a connection, which tests whether downloading each day’s map the night before really covers the moments when signal drops. Third, how many bookings are imported by forwarding the confirmation email rather than typed in, since retyping every booking is the kind of chore that makes a planner feel like extra work.

- Trips planned end to end in the app
- Maps opened without a connection
- Bookings imported rather than typed

A studio concept: numbers we’d watch on a live product, not results we’re claiming.
