A dispatch console for a delivery fleet, designed around one question: where is it now?

## Challenge

Dispatch usually watches a map, a spreadsheet and a group chat at once: three windows for one question. When everything on screen moves, nothing stands out. A van running twelve minutes behind looks the same as the ones that are fine until a customer calls. Late, idle and off-route vans are the ones that need a decision, and they are the hardest to pick out by eye.

## Solution

One selection drives the list, the map and the detail panel, so dispatch never matches two views by eye. A Needs attention filter narrows the list to late and idle vans and dims the rest on the map. On-time vans stay grey; colour is kept for states dispatch has to act on. Each exception gets a card with one next step, such as messaging the next customer, calling the driver or accepting a new route, and a day view shows every van’s stops as blocks.

## Technology

Fleet Console is designed as a web app for the large screens a dispatch desk uses all day. Positions would stream from the driver app, vector map tiles would be styled to stay quiet so the vans carry the colour, and late, idle and off-route rules would be raised on the server, so every dispatcher sees the same alert at the same time.

## What we’d measure

Fleet Console is a goodtogrid studio concept, not client work: a design for a live tracking and dispatch console that helps a delivery team spot the one van needing attention among many that are fine. No real fleet has used it, so there are no results to report. On a live product, the studio would measure three things. The first is the time from a late alert to a message reaching the customer, because the console exists to shorten that gap. The second is how many calls pass between dispatch and drivers each day, since a screen that shows status clearly should replace calls that only ask for it. The third is stops completed per van per day, which shows whether quicker decisions at the desk turn into more deliveries on the road. These are the numbers we’d watch with a real fleet, not results we’re claiming.

- Time from a late alert to a customer message
- Calls between dispatch and drivers per day
- Stops completed per van per day

A studio concept: numbers we’d watch on a live product, not results we’re claiming.
