> Why we build websites with TanStack Router, Bun and Turborepo: typed routes, fast builds, prerendered pages and nothing to run on a server.

For sites that don't need a server of their own, we build with TanStack Router on React, Bun for tooling and Turborepo to keep the repository in order. The KYZN Preschool site is built this way.

- **Used for:** Web Development
- **Backed by:** 1 case study · 1 for a client
- **Updated:** 2026-10-02

## Why we use it

- Routes checked by TypeScript, so a broken link fails the build instead of a visit
- Search parameters with types, for filters and views that live in the URL
- Pages prerendered to HTML, so they load fast and read well to search engines
- Bun installs, tests and runs scripts quickly, which keeps the feedback loop short
- Turborepo keeps the site, shared components and tooling in one repository
- A front end only, with no server, database or login for the client to maintain

## When we don’t

- Products that need accounts, roles and stored data, where we add a backend or choose a framework built around one
- Teams already committed to another framework, where switching costs more than it saves
- Sites edited daily by many people, where a hosted CMS and its own tooling may fit better

## Alternatives we weigh

- **Next.js.** A full framework with server rendering built in. A sound choice when a site needs a server anyway, and widely known by other developers.
- **A website builder.** Faster and cheaper for a simple site your team edits alone. Less room for custom sections and less control over speed.
- **Plain HTML.** Fine for a single page. It stops scaling once there are shared sections and many pages to keep consistent.

## How we use it

The KYZN Preschool site is TanStack Router, Bun and Turborepo, and nothing else. It's a front end only: no backend, database or auth for the school to maintain.

That choice came from the content, not the tools. The school needed sections parents could browse, each with its own card, and nothing that required a login. Leaving the server out kept the build smaller and the handover simpler.

When a product does need a server, as Rekamedika and Dashbird do, we plan the backend alongside the front end instead of forcing it into this setup.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can our own developers take this over?

Yes. It's React and TypeScript in a standard repository. Anyone who knows React can read it, and the handover covers how to run and deploy it.

### Is a front-end-only site fast?

Usually faster than one with a server. Pages are prerendered to HTML ahead of time, so there's nothing to compute when someone visits.

### Where does a front-end-only site run?

On any static host. There's no server process to keep alive or patch, which is a big part of why we choose it.
